Symptoms include Abnormal alignment of teeth, Abnormal appearance of the face, Difficulty or discomfort when biting or chewing, Speech difficulties (rare) including lisp, Mouth breathing (breathing through the mouth without closing the lips).
Many types of malocclusion are not preventable. Control of habits such as thumb sucking may be necessary in some cases. However, early detection and treatment may optimize the time and method of treatment needed.

| Dental Braces or Surgery | Modern Medicine |
|
Malocclusion is commonly treated by using dental braces. The constant and gently pressure provided by braces will enable teeth straightening and help push teeth back to their correct position.Removal of teeth will help in instances of overcrowding, and would make room for the other teeth to move to the correct position. Reshaping, and bonding or capping teeth will treat rough or irregular teeth removing resistance in forming a proper bite. Surgery can be used to reshape the jaw or to stabilize the jaw bone through wires, plates or screws where required. |
