Ludwig'S Angina
Ludwig's angina is an infection of the mouth’s tissue in which floor of the mouth swells down. It is a type of cellulitis in which inflammation of the tissue’s floor of the mouth takes place. The condition is common in adults and rarely found in children. Sublingual space infection and Submandibular space infection are alternative names of the condition.

If the swelling of the mouth results in blocking the airway, urgent medical help is required for maintaining the open airway. For this, a breathing tube is place into the lungs through nose or mouth. Surgery known as tracheostomy is also performed if required. Antibiotics like penicillin like medications are given for fighting with the infection. Till the time bacteria go away, doctors advise continue taking medications. If Ludwig's angina causes tooth infection, dental treatment is given. |
